Safe at home
Remember this?
The massive and mysterious vault in our downstairs hallway? Well, I made some calls, and I got some answers.
With no key, the only way to get into the thing is to drill it out. And until it has been drilled out and opened, we cannot know if we can repair it and restore it to its original function.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind if we couldn't fix it; it would make a handsome cupboard or closet of some kind.
But there's a little catch: 320 euros to come and open it. That's $375. That's quite a bit more than we expected.
Obviously, if it turns out to contain a glimmering heap of nazi gold, then we come out ahead. Or a Renoir. Or Amelia Earhart. Or the Lindberg baby. But if it doesn't, then we're SOL. And there is also the possibility that the mystery of keeping it unopened, the very intrigue of it, is worth more than all of those things.
Nah. Not really. But we're not sure what we're gonna do about it anyway.
I'll let you know if and when we make a decision.
