Cheap airline

Just a little catchup on an old topic. Remember the first entry in this whole blog? We'd just landed in France, for round two of house-hunting, only to find that during the one-hour flight from London, some violence had veen visited upon our stroller:

The handle was ripped clean off. And, as some of you may recall (even further back into the past), this was the same stroller we'd bought in Sydney a year and a half ago, here pictured with its noble predecessor:

Anyway, we lodged a claim with RyanAir to recuperate the cost of the replacement for the chair they had mangled. But because we'd bought the chair in Australia, of course we had no receipt for its purchase. We sent photos of the old and new chairs, including the receipt for the new chair, and hoped they would refund at least part of the $300 we'd been forced to shell out as our first expense in France.

And they finally did... sort of. I quote from their letter:

As no receipt could be provided, it is therefore treated in the same way as lost air cargo, based on the standard weight of each inreceipted item, at the rate of SDR17/GBP13.85 per kilogram.

The final settlement figure for your claim in therefore GBP41.55, which is enclosed herewith, in full and final settlement of this matter.

Forty-one pounds. Great. One hell of a budget airline. At a pound a pop, the tickets are cheap, sure, but really, we'd've done better with BA, I think.

And the moral of the story? Always bring an extra pushchair. Thank god we didn't check Kepler through as well! He'd be short an arm if we had. Wah.
